FROM THE LEAGUES

  • Another week, another sponsored charity walk – the guys from MAN V FAT are really clocking in the miles for great causes at the moment. Sam Dampier, a player in the Yeovil MVF league who smashed his 10% weight loss target in his first season, is embarking on a 100km trek covering most of the south coast with a team of three others in aid of Oxfam. The walk, which will start close to Portsmouth and cover most of the South Downs National Park before finishing up in Brighton will be a gruelling test of character and physical strength for the quartet. Not only have they committed to walking the 100km in just 30 hours. Months of training for the trek has seen Sam lose a staggering 3.5 stone(!)
  • If you would like to read more about Sam’s story and donate then head over to his Just Giving page.

  • It seems that the charitable giving doesn’t stop there either, as a group of players from the Bridgwater league have organised a footy match in aid of cancer charity Orchid. The game takes place on Sunday 23rd July and is the sequel to the first MAN v FAT charity football match held earlier in the year which raised a grand total of £3000 for charity.
  • Roger Smith, MAN v FAT Football coach and the brainchild behind the event, came up with the idea along with the local Asda community officer. The two decided that it would be great for a squad from the MAN v FAT Bridgwater league to test themselves against a team of Asda employees with all the profits being donated to Orchid, a male cancer charity looking to save men’s lives from testicular, prostate and penile cancers.
  • Tickets are £5 for adults and £1 for children, so if you’re free on Sunday head to the Kingsdown Pavillion, Bridgwater for a 6pm kick off – it promises to be a great day, especially as pre-season is starving us all of the beautiful game!
  • Here at MAN v FAT we take immense pride in sharing the great achievements of all the wonderful MVF players from across the country, and we’re always so thrilled to hear of your success. David Dadd, a player from the Leyton league is another shining example of what a bit of grit and determination can achieve. David decided in February that it was time to get back in shape and after seeing a MAN v FAT post on Facebook, he knew that this would be the perfect opportunity to regain a healthy body and a healthy mind. He set himself a target to get back down to the weight he was before he had children. With 61lbs to lose and a deadline of just before heading off on his jollies, David has smashed his target, losing a whopping 4.5 stone, with a few days to spare before he jets off too. Well done David! 👏

NEW PRODUCTS

  • It’s summertime (wahoo!). That means endless days of grey clouds and relentless rain while complaining about it, right? But it’s Julyyyyyyyy!  On the off chance that the sun does come out and you wipe away the cobwebs from the barbeque, HECK chicken Italia sausages are made from chicken, mozzarella and tomato and if you think that sounds weird, well…you’re wrong. They’re not new, but they are delicious and we love the nutritional makeup of these sausages: for 2 sausages there’s just 1.6g of fat and 72 calories, so that basically means you can eat sausages until they come out of your ears. Currently on offer at Sainsbury’s for £2.50. But watch out if you’re heading to the shops to buy them because not all HECK sausages are low-fat and it’s easy to mix them up.
