1) Tell us a bit about your experience so far as a player at MAN v FAT
The first league I joined in Chelmsford, was just over a 70 mile round trip for me, but it was absolutely worth it. I moved to the Dartford club when it launched and have been attending ever since. I’ve had a few struggles along the way, with injuries and what not, but one thing that has remained constant, is the camaraderie. It helps to keep me accountable and honest about my weight and helps prevent going too far backwards, eroding the losses so far.
2) What do you enjoy most about being a part of MAN v FAT and your club in particular?
Being able to play football in a semi-competitive environment, with link minded folk is what makes it enjoyable. Unlike other exercise, playing football doesn’t feel like a chore. I’m not going to be able to keep up the pace with a super competitive league, nor have the stamina to play Sunday League 90 minute games, so this is the perfect outlet.
3) What are you hoping to achieve by being a part of the player committee?
MAN v FAT’s philosophy is to support everyone with improving their health. If I can make a positive contribution to that, having seen things that do work and that don’t work in my local club, it would be a great thing.
Like any organisation, MAN v FAT will not get everything absolutely right first time, and they won’t be able to tailor their offerings for every single individual and their personal circumstances or ideologies. However, I hope that I can be a positive voice and influence in making MAN v FAT as accessible, enjoyable, and worthwhile for as many people as possible.
