Welcome to this week’s MAN v FAT Newsround, where we take a look at what’s been going on in the world of weight loss, health and fitness this week…
- This week was Eating Disorder Awareness Week and research has shown it is most definitely needed. 34% of people quizzed could not name any signs or symptoms of eating disorders according to a YouGov poll, showing just how necessary it is for people to gain some knowledge on the potentially life-threatening disorders.
- Spreading awareness is even more important when you realise that it takes on average three and a half years for somebody suffering to seek treatment or help – when every day is a struggle for somebody with an eating disorder, waiting over three years to start to take back control is a staggeringly long time. While the likes of anorexia and bulimia immediately spring into mind when the topic of eating disorders is brought up, those surrounding overeating slip even further under the radar. We would like to encourage anybody who feels like they struggle with excessive eating to be open and transparent with their MAN v FAT Football teammates and coach, and to family and friends. We have all been there, immoderately snacking late at night, or eating in secret away from partners, but when it starts to seriously affect your life it’s time to seek help. Hiding in the shadows and bottling up those thoughts and feelings won’t do you, or anybody who cares about you, any good, so have no shame in seeing your GP.
WHAT WE’RE EATING
This week we’re enjoying something which everyone loves – meatballs! They’re often tough on the waistline, heavy in fat and saturates it can be tough to enjoy these beauties when you’re watching your weight. Sainsbury’s have cracked this conundrum with their new Meat and Veg Meatballs – better for your waist and heart. They come in two flavours: Mediterranean beef, which is a fusion of seasoned British beef and hearty roasted aubergine, courgettes and cherry tomatoes, and spicy Korean beef, which sees beef paired with edamame beans and pak choi. These meatballs are five grams lower in fat than your regular beef ones and at just £2.00 for a pack of twelve, they stack in at the same price of Sainsbury’s regular meatballs.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“You absolutely don’t HAVE to count calories, but calories DO count. In order to change your weight (up or down) you have to create an imbalance between the energy going in vs the energy going out, anyone presenting ‘conflicting’ or alternative information is either: 1) lying to you, or 2) doesn’t understand what they’re talking about. Choosing your preferred method of how to manage energy expenditure is the key part for you mate.” – @Maxnas commenting on the confusing world of calorie counting.
