MAN v FAT Raises Thousands For Movember

During the month of November, MAN v FAT challenged all our members to get involved with the Movember campaign and encouraged players to get out and move and attempt to get to the World Cup Final venue in Qatar.

Whilst doing this, we wanted you to try and raise some much-needed funds for a fantastic cause.

Now the month is over, we want to say a massive congratulations and thank you to all who took part this year as an incredible £2,395 was raised and the guys covered a total distance of 4,087kms across 901 activities.

A special mention to Sean O’Tauthail, MAN v FAT Margate who raised an impressive £540 and to Team MAN v FAT Margate who came out top as a total team raising £1,350.

Our individual distance winner was Adam Cree, who plays at MAN v FAT Middlesbrough, who covered 1,293kms by cycling, whilst Allan Steel (MAN v FAT Lincoln) covered the most distance by a range of methods, covering 276km!. Team Middlesbrough also took the crown for total distance covered as a team spanning 3332kms!

Special thanks to Shane Barrett, who plays for MAN v FAT Redditch who did a huge amount to raise awareness around suicide and men’s mental health.

Shane has always wanted to take part in Movember for many years as mental health has been something he has struggled with in the past and his family has unfortunately been devastated by suicide twice in his life, once, tragically just a couple of months ago.

He reached out to the lads in the Redditch team to do it as a group, expecting maybe a couple to join in, but he had a great response with around 10, including Mark the club coach.

Shane’s main reason for taking part was to raise awareness and open conversation around tough topics such as suicide and mental health in men. His fantastic efforts didn’t go unnoticed as he said: “I’ve had a few people of different generations who were strangers in my work, open up and talk to me about their own struggles with mental health and one who had also been devastated by a family member committing suicide.

“This for me is where I’ve felt the most success, despite us also raising a great sum for Movember as a team. These conversations started purely as me joking about how bad the moustache looked and opened a door to a conversation that wouldn’t have been opened if we weren’t taking on the Movember challenge.”

We’re very much looking forward to our Movember 2023 challenge.
