What is MAN V FAT Intense Accountability? Intense Accountability is simply a term that encapsulates one of the most misunderstood keys to weight loss, namely that you have to hold yourself accountable if you are going to achieve your goals. It’s all very well to formulate the best diet or exercise plan ever (“I’m going to give up sugar and unicycle across the county – EVERY DAY!”) but unless you stick to it then it’s just words. In most diet programmes accountability means a once-a-week weigh in. You start to bond with the group who you’re dieting with and that communal sense of mission gives you an added incentive to stick to your plan. Intense Accountability takes that process and cranks it up several notches. Under the MVFIA process, you are accountable:

  1. To a much smaller group
  2. To that group every single day

You see in a larger group that meets weekly it’s possible to keep quiet and slowly go off the boil. You might miss one meeting, or you just fail to hit a target and the impact is lessened. Maybe the group stops interacting with you as much, because they’re focusing on the ones who are still on point. Your energy drops and you gradually stop caring and fall out of step with your goals. This doesn’t just weaken your efforts, it damages the whole group. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN WITH MVFIA. How does it work?

  • MVFIA groups have just seven people in them
  • Everyone is trying to achieve their own goal
  • Groups post to their own private section of the TALK: forum at least twice a day .
  • Each group is scored based on what percentage of their group they get through the 30 days and what percentage achieve their stated goal.
  • There’s a weekly weigh in.

That’s it. Our hypothesis is that keeping a very visible, daily level of accountability in a small group means that you simply can’t go missing. It’s achieve, or leave.

What do you have to do?

If you join a MVFIA group then you commit to stating a reasonable goal to achieve in the next 30 days. You don’t have to follow any particular diet or exercise plan, you could go paleo, you could do Insanity P90X – it’s your choice, your group might discuss it with you, but you’re the boss of you. Most importantly, you commit to posting two times a day on a private (i.e. only you and the other members of your group will be able to see this) Talk forum thread. One of those posts has to be your daily tracking info – what you ate, what you drank, what exercise you did. The other post can be anything – cheering on your other group members, isolating a challenge you’re facing that day, celebrating a victory, posting some random motivational thing you found that might give others a boost – it’s your call.

  1. I’d like to join a group, my goal would be to drop 12lb in the 30 days.

  2. Love this approach. Most of us know what we have to do and have good intentions. I won’t bore anyone with theories of behaviour (I attended a one day conference and I’m now an expert) but we all know intentions don’t always lead to actions.
    I’m in and my 30 day goal is 10lbs.

  3. Yes - I may not be a bout camp contender or even a couch to 5k guy yet - but I will take part and aim to actually lose weight - sign me up

    This will be a true challenge as we are moving house at end of month - the extra work will either help or I will be resisting the quick bites of cake and fast food

    A point of order: the two post per day rule applies every single day.

    You can miss a weigh in if you’re not near your normal scales, but default from the two post per day rule and you’re out. No second chances, no exceptions. I’m having to post from a camp site with no wifi, so you have to post from a camp site/on a boat/while you’re on fire. If that changes things and you’re not going for it then say now.

    I know a few more have said that they want to join, so I think we’ll hit 15 and have three MVFIA groups of five, which is brilliant.

    To recap the rules:

    • Clearly state your goals at the beginning of the 30 days
    • Post in the private group thread at least twice a day, every day
    • One of your posts must be your tracking (food, drink, exercise)
    • Miss the two post minimum and you’re out - no excuses, no second chances
    • At the end of the 30 days we review
    • Weigh in - suggested frequency once a week but you might feel like doing it more/less.

    So @admin is there supposed to a link I can get into my my supergroup - or is that not up yet - would hate to fail on day 1 as I haven’t posted anything just because I was to blind to see it

    Good luck everyone. There are no losers in this challenge. if we stick together we will all be winners.
    Personally I’ve got to get a better mental attitude when it comes to will power and self-control in regard to my eating. Thats one of the things I will be working on.

    Goal: to consume less than 15,000 cals per week… I’ll work out what that is for 30 days later!
