What was your life like before you joined MAN v FAT Football?
Before I started MAN v FAT Football, I was worried about my weight and my health. My dad passed away aged 55 from heart disease, he was a large man too.
I figured if I carried on the way I was going I might only have 10 years left, so I wanted to do something to lose weight and get fit, and it needed to be something I enjoyed doing.
I had played football for most of my childhood and early adult years so it was a no-brainer to sign up, especially as the Havant club had funded places when I signed up too.
What was the moment that made you decide to change?
I was looking at pictures of my family and I realised that if I didn’t change things, I’d soon start having health problems. I knew that I’d eventually get to the point where I wouldn’t be able to change things, or where it may be too late entirely.
Who do you play for and what have the games been like?
I play for the whites, we are called The Slimsons.
The games have been really close on the pitch, and it amazes me how much the scales scores can change the final result.
I’ve loved getting back into football – I played a lot in my younger days so it was great fun to get back in to it.
We have a great team with great team spirit and each week we all work hard on the pitch and scales to get the results we deserve. At the time of writing, we’re currently sitting top of the league!
What difference has losing weight made in your life?
It has made me happier about myself, and given me more confidence. I’m just happier in general now too.
I have loads more energy and love working out at the gym and exercising, I really look forward to my MAN v FAT Football session on Monday nights and catching up with all the guys.
Is there anything else we should know about your weight loss story?
I just wanted to thank the guys on my team (The Slimsons) for the motivation to keep going and for working hard on and off the pitch. They are a great bunch of lads.
What would you say to anyone thinking of joining MAN v FAT Football?
Definitely do it! Just give it a go, you’ve nothing to lose. Except weight of course.
There are no judgments or shaming, we are all there for the same reason – to lose weight and enjoy playing football.
