Members from our MAN v FAT Soccer clubs in the Houston area swapped their soccer boots for running trainers in September, as they joined up to take on the ‘Run Houston! University of Houston 5k’ event.
The guys have achieved great things on the scales and that encouraged them to undertake some additional exercise by hitting the road together.

Cam Roberts, who recently hit his 25% weight loss achievement with MAN v FAT, explained: “Back when the only MAN v FAT club was North Houston Tuesdays, a group of us set up Friday night soccer where we all chip in to rent a field for an hour or two and play some pickup games.
“As Houston started to add more leagues we ended up making a giant group chat “MAN v FAT Houston Pickup Games” which has been our source for pickup game details and banter ever since.
“About a month ago Roberto from the West Houston (and North Houston) league posted in the chat that he was running his first 5k, the Run Houston! U of H 5k & 10k, in September and asked if anyone wanted to join. I was thrilled to join and went ahead and registered the “MAN v FAT” team for anyone else who wanted to join us.”
Our Soccer leagues have formed some incredible communities across the US and a host of new leagues are due on stream in early 2027.
The Houston guys are a perfect example of how MAN v FAT builds friendships outside of the league nights and Cam said the event went incredibly well.

He added: “It was a blast! On race day we all met up at the start line and again afterwards to take pics with our medals and commiserate about the heat. When the pics from the run hit the group chat we were flooded with supportive (and even jealous!) messages from the other guys.
“We all had a great time and already in the group chat we’re getting a team together for a mud run this Saturday and another 5k next month. As someone who had run dozens of events solo, I’m excited to have a new group of friends to share my passion with!”

Roberto confirmed it was a day to remember and hopefully the start of something new for many of the men involved: “The day of the event we all caught up on what’s been going on for each of us and took plenty of pictures.
“It was very fun and we were all encouraging and supportive of each other! This was my first ever 5k race and I’m happy that I was able to complete. My happiest moment in the race was when I was able to cross the finish line while wearing the MAN v FAT Soccer shirt and showing it off proudly.”
