FROM THE MAN v FAT FOOTBALL LEAGUES
- And the BAFTA goes to . . . the MAN v FAT Manchester league! Yes, that’s right our very own MVFF Manchester league were the stars of the show on Monday night when they were showcased on BBC One’s Inside Out: North West. The ten minute segment on the show (which is still available to view on BBC iPlayer if you missed it) highlighted all things good about MAN v FAT Football and in particular about Manchester, one of our longest running leagues.
- It featured highlights from some of the matches, an insight into how the league works, interviews with players and coaches, (including one with MVF founder Andrew Shanahan) and to top it all off, it was presented by superstar TV personality Ted Robbins (AKA Den Perry). Aside from the clips of some questionable finishing and goalkeeping, the best bit was definitely seeing the positive impact MAN V FAT has had on numerous member lives – something which transpires throughout all the leagues and is something we’re extremely proud to have achieved.

Their slogan is infamous – “you either love it, or you hate it”. But if you’re a self-confessed lover, or a loud and proud hater of the quintessentially British spread Marmite, the reason behind your opinion is probably a lot more complex and scientific than you may think. In a “landmark” study, the manufacturer and DNA testing lab DNAFit have coupled up and spent a staggering 12 months getting 130 healthy men and 130 healthy women to taste Marmite, before testing their DNA.
-
Without bamboozling you with all the science stuff, in essence, when all of the results were correlated, there was an interesting link between 15 genetic markers and whether they did or didn’t like Marmite. In summary, your taste buds’ opinion on the taste of Marmite has already been decided, courtesy of your genes. What’s more, the test kits will be available for purchase so that you can find out for yourself at home, meaning the next time a squeamish relative exclaims “how on earth can you eat that stuff?”, you can simply reply with cold, hard, scientifically proven facts.
