Having lost nearly 30% of his starting body weight with MAN v FAT Mansfield, Lewis Walker is hoping that consistency will be the key to tip him over that remarkable landmark.

Lewis has lost nearly 50kg of weight since he got underway with the Mansfield club and it’s made a big difference in his ability to enjoy life with his family, including daughter Amelia.

We caught up with him to find out more!

What is it about MAN v FAT that has worked for you in your weight loss and wellbeing efforts?

First and foremost the accountability of having a consistent weigh-in each week, and knowing that it contributes to the team.

Being on a weight loss journey can be isolating and lonely, but having a community where you can meet weekly and discuss progress, tips and advice has been really helpful and insightful.

You realise that you are not alone in it and having a weekly pat on the back, or check in for how you are doing helps massively with the wellbeing side too. The football side offers an opportunity to get moving and work as a team across the season which is as helpful as any advice.

What do you like best about the MAN v FAT Mansfield community?

The people around you, if offers an opportunity to meet people with similar goals and obstacles. Everyone is very welcoming and supportive, and you get the opportunity to play organised games of football weekly, where contribution in other areas can really make a difference.

What would you say to any guy in the area thinking of joining the programme?

Do it! I was apprehensive as I hadn’t played football for years and just starting on my weight loss journey, I can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed with the set up or the community you are part of. It’s allowed me to focus on longer term goals and achieve things I didn’t think I was capable of while having fun and joining a team of encouraging guys which support every step of the way.

What are your longer term health and wellbeing goals?

I haven’t got a goal currently apart from consistency. MAN v FAT has allowed me to not just focus on the target weight, but own health and wellbeing. Being a father to a 6 year old, Amelia, the aim is to be around longer and be healthier for her, and this community is allowing me to do that.
