Alan set for five day challenge to raise vital funds

MAN v FAT Boston member Alan Cannell will be hitting the road in memory of his son to thank two charities that played an important part in dealing with his grief at the time.

Alan will be walking the length of Hadrian’s Wall across the course of five days and told us: “After the loss of my son in 2021 St Barnabas were instrumental in putting me back together after a breakdown.

“This was achieved through their group counselling and is a valuable and vital lifeline for many. What hit home for me was being able to talk about my grief with people who had suffered similar in a safe, open and supported environment.

“I was aiming to complete this walk some months ago, but injured myself when passing out when exiting my loft. As the result of this I spent almost a day in A&E. I was horrified at the poor quality of some of the equipment. I would like to make a donation for something like a working spinal board.”

Alan has been a member of the Lincolnshire club since September last year and his introduction to MAN v FAT came somewhat by chance.

He added: “I was out walking my dogs and saw gentlemen of a similar age playing and stopped to ask about it. I met the weight criteria and joined.

“For anyone else thinking about it, join without hesitation. It’s fun, it’s exercise, there is the cameraderie of being part of a team. What’s not to like.”

If you’d like to donate to Alan’s fundraising, you can do so by visiting his JustGiving link.

We all wish him well with his upcoming walk!
