Why did you join MAN v FAT in the first place?
I joined MAN v FAT back in 2017 when I saw a late night advertisement on Facebook and thought that I’d give it a go – I haven’t looked back since! I wasn’t as heavy then as I was at my heaviest, which was post-lockdown at 105.2kg.
What have been the best and hardest bits of your efforts to get to BMI Boss status?
The best part has been ticking off the percentages 5/10/15/20/25 and knowing that when I hit my 25% that I was only just under 3kg from a healthy BMI.
I could feel myself getting fitter and feeling good in clothes that I wasn’t able to wear previously. The non-scale victories were just as important too!
In an effort to hit maintenance, I pushed myself and did a 4 day fast where I had nothing but black coffee and water. However, whilst I did hit maintenance, I was punished the week after putting nearly 5kg back on and bouncing out of maintenance, so I can’t recommend it! However, I hit maintenance again in early August and I’m still there which I’m delighted with!
What are the biggest benefits you’re now feeling from being at a healthy weight?
The biggest benefits has been being fitter than I’ve ever been, taking over an hour off my previous marathon time and PBs with half marathon/10k. It’s also being able to have the stamina to play multiple games of football a week. Seeing my clothes sizes drop as well has been brilliant to see.
How important has the MAN v FAT community been in getting you to this stage – and keeping you there?
Without a doubt the community as a whole has been incredibly important. I’ve been really lucky to be on some really good teams, both from a football but mainly weight loss perspective too – I wouldn’t have been able to hit BMI without my teammates!
