MAN v FAT member Liam Gillmore, from our Tonbridge club, has managed to lose 30kg since joining in December of 2024, meeting new friends along the way and getting fitter than ever.
Liam was tired of his weight, and looking to get active. He talks about his journey since then, saying: “I had had enough of being 25 stone, being breathless and not being able to do much activities with my kids. MAN v FAT has been really important for my weight loss, really helping it to excel due to the fantastic support system and friends I have made.
“In my first season of MAN v FAT I joined as a goalkeeper and won the league, which was the first thing I have ever won! The next season I won the league and cup, and the two single awards for the most weight lost and the biggest percentage of starting weight lost. Now in my third season, I have gotten more confident, and I am now captain of the team I play for. I’m now a midfielder, and absolutely love all the running around.”

Liam also highlights the positive community he found at the Tonbridge club, saying: “I love the fact that everyone there is supportive, and no one judges you. This was big for me at the beginning as due to suffering from anxiety that I was worried about being judged. Not only do you get the support and people to talk to but you make some fantastic friendships, have a laugh at the same time and play the sport you love.”
He also highlights some of the changes he has made to his lifestyle, which has helped him lose weight, saying: “My diet has changed a lot since joining MAN v FAT. I am now much more knowledgeable of what to and not to eat. My diet is now more protein based, which means I feel a lot more full than I used to, and I am also much more familiar with how much I can eat, helped by calorie counting and from Andy the Coach.”

“Now, I go to the gym at least twice a week and am also doing British military martial arts with my son. I completed a 10k marathon in November, and have signed up for a half marathon to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK in my father’s name in August 2026. It is something I never thought I’d do. I have also participated in the MAN v FAT tournament with some of the players from the club as well, which was amazing.
“My mental health has improved immensely. I am so much more confident than I was before I started, and I have met some amazing people, and Andy the club’s coach has been amazing giving valuable advice on my calorie intake and what to eat.
“Joining MAN v FAT has been the best thing I have done in a long while. I have loved every minute of it, making new friends and having a laugh with judgement by anyone. Everyone there is there for the same reason and it’s amazing how everyone cheers and encourages each other on.”
