Celebrating our Scottish community

It’s been a great year for our MAN v FAT clubs in Scotland and their recent successes have been celebrated in the national media in recent weeks.

With a few weeks of 2024 to go, our five Scottish clubs have shed 871kg of weight so far.

We’ve seen some great stories across our five clubs and, with Glasgow having relaunched at a new session day this year, we’re confident that 2025 will be even better for our Scottish members.

“Our Scottish clubs are again a big focus for 2025, we will hold our third annual Scottish Tournament alongside our first ever Scottish Coach Development Day in the new year as we continue to support and grow the MAN v FAT community across Scotland,” Regional Manager Stuart Normansell said.

Willie and Gary celebrate their successes with coach Ryan

With a third MAN v FAT Scotland tournament on the horizon, it’ll be the lads from Fife looking to retain their title with their team Fat & Furious (pictured at the start of the e-mail) taking the honours earlier this year.

And two of our most recent case studies to appear in the national media have come from our MAN v FAT Fife club.

Willie Moss has lost over 6 stone in his time with MAN v FAT so far and he has loved his time with the programme to date.

“What I enjoy most about MAN v FAT is the community spirit we have – it doesn’t matter what team you are on, we are all fighting for the same cause. It makes the journey so much easier,” he said.”

And Willie’s appearance in the media was followed by his clubmate Gary O’Neil, whose story appeared on Yahoo’s Lifestyle pages last week.

Gary has also lost over six stone and said the changes have certainly been noticed by his customers – and his partner, Marianne.

He said: “I’ve had amazing feedback. Regular customers at work, who haven’t stopped by the garage for a while, see me and do a double take. It’s good for my ego.

!I’ve also noticed Marianne checking me out since I’ve lost weight and got fit, which is a bonus! She’s been very supportive throughout, although I think she’s a bit surprised I was able to do it.

“It was making a start that was the hardest thing – realising I had to take that first step. But now I’ve got my focus and my health back, and I’m in a better place mentally, I’m so glad I did.”

We’ve also had some great coverage for our Paisley club, with Stuart Bain’s story being featured on the Glasgow Live website.

Stuart has chronic fatigue and hypoglycaemia, but has found MAN v FAT has had huge benefits for his health: “This programme is everything to me. Even when I’m injured or having a flair up of my illnesses, I go down to support my team and get weighed in because even if you can’t play your weight loss can help your team win off the park which is a great feeling too.

“I have found a real sense of community in Paisley MAN v FAT. Not just the team that I play for but the club as a whole, so I would really like to thank all of them. I honestly can’t thank coach Kenny and Ryan enough.”

So a big congratulations to Gary, Willie, Stuart and the rest of the Scottish community – we’re excited to see what you can achieve in 2025!
